Move Strong, Live Strong
‘Movement For Life’ is my tagline - The Dancer Body was never promoted to attain any specific body type - It was and is about having a body therefore being able to dance. Dance requires mobility and flexibility in order to move freely - alongside resistance training and stretching this is much like training as a dancer.
Recently I’ve been training a number of clients using functional strength exercises alongside barre-based work, combined with cardio, stretching and mobility training. This approach is incredibly effective, particularly for the women I work with. Many of my clients are mums meeting the demands of family life - pushing strollers, lifting children, cleaning and shopping. Managing these daily tasks requires mobility, strength, stamina and flexibility.
Functional strength work is precisely this - pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, rotating and reaching - training multiple muscle groups simultaneously. This builds core stability, balance and co-ordination to support safe and effect movement in our bodies.
‘Movement For Life’ is my tagline - The Dancer Body was never a workout branded to attain any specific body type - It was and is about having a body therefore being able to dance. Dance requires mobility and flexibility in order to move freely - alongside resistance training and stretching this is much like training as a dancer. However; it is important to remember results vary depending on body size, intensity and regularity. No two people - or it’s unlikely - will achieve the same results from a program due to our body composition.
Individuality is what makes us unique yet society continues to grapple with the idea that thin somehow means better. The attachment of a specific body type to certain exercise methods such as reformer pilates, as well as the rise in use of weight loss injections can feel disheartening. As someone who suffered from body shaming throughout my teens I know firsthand that what we need is self acceptance, uplifting movement and to move away from the idea of perfection when it comes to our bodies.
Jennifer Lopez stepped out on a press tour for her new film recently looking incredible at 56. She has always credited her strong and feminine physique with dance, strength training and a healthy attitude to food. This approach is much more inspiring than deprivation, endless exercise and arbitrary daily step counts which, for most of us, is not realistic.
I fully support an industry that encourages movement and a healthy lifestyle. But most importantly I encourage you all to move in a way that supports longevity, health and happiness.

Why Joyful Movement Is The Future Of Fitness
One of the strongest wellness conversations right now is around sustainability and enjoyment in fitness. People are moving away from punishing workouts and towards movement they genuinely enjoy.
For years, fitness culture taught us that exercise had to be extreme to be effective (step forward HIIT and Insanity) The harder the workout and the more exhausted we felt afterwards - the more successful it seemed. But the conversation around movement is changing and in a growing industry with so many options, people are pausing to ask the question; what kind of movement actually makes me feel good?
Intense training causes not only burnout but can also lead to injury. Following the pandemic physio Joe Dyer reported an increase in injuries due to people doing intense HIIT workouts at home. ‘Such intense workouts require the body to be very well conditioned and need proper recovery - it’s not a sustainable way to train for the majority’.
Most people struggle to stay consistent, understandably, with a workout they don’t enjoy and constant high intensity training negatively impacts the nervous system. We don’t need what feels like another demand on us in a fast moving world - we need an outlet that supports both our physical and mental health. Ultimately, we want to feel good in our bodies and this can be effectively achieved with a workout that suits us, in the right setting and with the right support.
The way I move has naturally evolved over the years. I’ve tried most types of exercise and I enjoy trying out the latest exercise trends for research purposes. I always return to the same principles - movement that feels energising, challenging, strengthening and uplifting. This is precisely why my own workout routine as well as my method revolves around dance - moving to music in a dynamic and choreographed way feels elevating and is highly effective. I also love Barre and Sculpt workouts using weights and the pilates ball - another powerful and safe way to exercise.
For years dancers have understood that movement should feel expressive, energising and sustainable - not punishing. In the end, it’s movement that makes us feel alive enough to return to it again and again that actually works.

Festive Movement
Moving through the festive season - from my workout at Hotel Cafe Royal to a NYE pop-up at Pineapple studios, I’m dancing right to the end fo 2025!
Although we are approaching the end of the year things are still very much moving. The festive season often creates added pressure, so sticking to my usual workout routine keeps me balanced - and I’m glad to see so many of you feel the same.
I was thrilled to deliver a dance workout recently at the beautiful Hotel Cafe Royal as part of a collaboration with their exclusive members club - Akasha Spa. What always stands out is that dance appeals to such a variety of ages and is always met with great energy, effort and joy. Holding space for everyone who joins my movement is one of my biggest intentions and equally something I’m always grateful for when I take classes. As the travel industry reports a growing demand for fitness and wellness facilities - as a bigger priority for travellers, it’s clear we now see fitness as a priority.
I will close the year at Pineapple dance studios with a New Years Eve dance party - my signature full body dance workout with some added party zest! This feels like the perfect way to end what has been a wonderful year. Join me at 11.30am on 31st December - book here and as always everybody is welcome.
From the surprising press features to connecting with so many new people - 2025 has certainly delivered. As we prepare to open a brand new page I am excited for what is ahead - and thank you all for your support this year.
Eat drink and be merry - and stay well,
Emily x
