The Rebirth of a Personal Brand: Finding My Way Back

Movement has always been at the heart of what I do. I’ve been dancing since I was five, have spent more than 20 years teaching and ran my own dance school for 13 years.

By 2020, I knew I wanted to create something new. I had an idea that had been developing for some time — to bring together my passion for Dance and Fitness and create a new kind of dance workout. So I made the decision to close my studio and focus on developing the programme.

I was excited about what it could become. I just didn’t know how much the world was about to change. We were thrust into the pandemic, and whilst I was attempting to build something new, everything was derailed almost overnight. Online coaching and digital fitness exploded, and as the market became increasingly saturated, I found myself trying to establish my place within a very new landscape - with a concept that was still evolving alongside me.

That’s not to say there has not been parts of the journey that I’m incredibly proud of. I’ve taught my classes at some of London’s most iconic dance and fitness spaces, including Danceworks and Pineapple Dance Studios, as well as the exclusive spa and health club at Hotel Café Royal. I’ve taught at festivals, worked with some brilliant brands and have been fortunate enough to be featured in HELLO! and The Telegraph, discussing the health benefits of dance.

But beyond the classes, studios and press, this has also been a deeply personal journey.

I’ve continued to work as a freelance dance teacher and personal trainer, supporting myself and my young son along the way. I’ve taken the knocks, the uncertainty and the rejections. I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned what I’m doing and where I’m going.

Recently, life forced me to take a step back and have a good look at everything - my message, my purpose and direction. Because underneath all the uncertainty, the passion is still there. My love of movement. My belief in what dance can do for the body and mind. My ambition to create something of my own that means something to others and that changes us, is underneath it all.

Perhaps I’m closer than I think.
